Trusting God in a Highly Suspicious World
Do you remember Alfred E. Newman? He was Mad Magazine's poster child for the
perennial adolescent who's motto for life was "What, me worry?" The only thing wrong with Alfred was that the
reason he never worried about anything was because he was in ignorant
bliss. He was his own boss as a cartoon,
not answerable to anyone. He was created
with no obligations whatsoever, so what did he have to worry about? The real challenge for anyone seeking to live
a godly life in a world where Satan goes about seeking whom he may devour is to
follow the Lord's instructions to die to self and live a life trusting God for
everything.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:13
Our natural inclination is to not
trust anyone but ourselves. But that's
why someone came up with the phrase, "If someone represents himself in
court, he has a fool for a lawyer."
The Biblical equivalent of that is Proverbs 28:26, "He that trusts in his own heart is a fool: but
whoever walks wisely, he shall be delivered."
So as we enter 2017 how well will you be trusting
God for all that may come about in the new year? The greatest obstacle to fully trusting God
is fear--fear of not being in control. The irony is
that if we stay in control of our lives, we will lead ourselves to destruction. Matt. 16:25 says, "For whoever wants to save their life will lose
it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it."
What is
your greatest worry for 2017? US
involvement in war? Israel divided? US economy? Trump presidency? Cost of living? Losing a loved one? Health insurance or declining health? Whatever the source for potential worry,
let's make this resolution together: In 2017 I want to trust in God more
and worry less about everything. Psalms
20:7 says, 'Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember
the name of the LORD our God."
Trusting is a choice, and you get to decide where you will put your
trust.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:13
