Today is September 4, but at sundown it became Tishri 1 and is the special day called Yom Terurah or the Feast of Trumpets in Leviticus 23:23-25   And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

So?  With all that is going on in the world today and the US considering a military strike in Syria, why should I care what the Bible says about some obsolete Jewish festival?

If you are a lover of the Word of God who believes that every word of scripture is there for a reason and is completely trustworthy, then you must at least be curious about the Feasts of the Lord which are clearly defined for us in the book of Leviticus.   When the Bible says that we are to observe and remember this day by blowing the shofar, I have come to believe we should do just that. (I say "we" because if you have been saved by the Messiah Jesus you are grafted into the people of the covenant that YHWH made with the Children of Israel, and that would include us!)

But the three Fall Feasts of the Lord are all like dress rehearsals for what YHWH is going to do at the time of his returning to earth.  We read about it in the gospel of Matthew 24:29-31:

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken; then will appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth [the tribes of Israel] will mourn, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory; and he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other."

Notice that it says that the tribes of Israel will be the ones who will see the Son of man coming on the clouds!  But a loud trumpet will announce His return!  Hearing the sound of the shofar is like us saying to the Father, "We want Jesus to come now!"  So,  that's why I care about this day.  Especially in light of all that is happening in this sinful world, we desire for His coming back to earth to reign triumphantly!  Spend some time in prayer today and don't ignore what the Word of God says to do.  You will be blessed and God will be glorified.
