My Life is in Your Hands

The LBC Choir is singing this Kirk Franklin song:

You don't have to worry, and don't you be afraid.
Joy comes in the morning, troubles they don't last always.
For there's a friend named Jesus who will wipe your tears away,
And if your heart is broken just lift your hands and say,
"Oh, I know that I can make it!  With Him I know I can stand!
No matter what may come my way, my life is in your hands!"

When I was a kid I loved Mad Magazine's Alfred E. Newman with his, "What, me worry?" silly grin on his freckled face.

If you are under 30 you might need a reminder:

I have always said that there are only 2 things in life you can worry about: a) Things you can do something about, and b) Things you can do nothing about.  The simple logic followed that if you can do something about it, then do it!  And if you can't do anything about it, why worry?--There's nothing you can do about it!

Then reality sets in.  Life is full of things to worry about, and poor ol' Alfred's comic book life is just that, a brainless, carefree, fantasy world of make-believe.

Real life worries about:
  • How am I going to pay for ___________?
  • How can I tell ________ what I did?
  • What if the doctor tells me it's _________?
  • It's 2:00 AM, where is _________?
Truth be known, there's probably more things we could worry about each day than not!  But a life filled with worry just does not characterize one who has surrendered his or her daily life in FAITH to the guidance, direction and will of the Spirit of Jesus living inside.  In fact, a good argument could be made that worry is outright sinful disobedience to the Lord for not trusting Him with the circumstances of life.

Many times in life you will find yourself in a situation where you will have to just choose to excercize your faith in God and not allow worry to rob you of your joy, your witness and even your health.  Isaiah 7:9 says,  "If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all."

Sometimes it may require courage to face a barrage of potential worries and take up the Sword of Truth which is the Word of God and rebuke the enemy.

Every Believer needs to be ready with memorized weapons of spiritual warfare such as 1st Peter 5:6-7 which says, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."  And of course there's Romans 8:28, "we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

Worry can be a real threat, but we have the One and only real God who has already overcome death and this world!  But you must live a life of surrendered obedience to God, letting your flesh be crucified with Christ on a daily basis, trusting Him completely.  Because without a personal saving knowlege of the Lord Jesus Christ, you really do have something to worry about--and it is a lot greater issue than just worrying about next month's rent!

Be Blessed,
Dan
